Help ID'ing this tool...

This was part of the deal when I bought the beat Snap On box in another thread. Anyone know what this guy is or is used for? Only marking is ' 1/2" ' stamped by the jaws.

I am fairly certain that it’s a metal banding strap clip crimper. The one I use only has 3 fingers if you will, but looks like that.

How to the jaws move? Out and then back in when compressed?

It is used to crimp band clamps on metal or plastic stapping.

When I was working at the lumber yard, we used those to crimp the bands around the straps binding wood bundles.

Yup. Metal band sleeve crimper.

Pretty much useless except for crimping sleeves on metal banding.
