I have been given this vise to restore for a friend and can't ID the brand. If anyone could, it would be appreciated. Also, as I got it in bits I am unsure how the screw locks on the front jaw - there is no hole for a split pin to hold the collar.
Hi Agroube, I don't know what your vise is but it has features found in some English vises. The bolt on static jaw tower as well as the cut in the barrel shaped spindle head are similar to features on vises found in this link. Not exact matches though. Scroll down a ways to the vise pics. Possibly a clue. Ed.
Interesting - the nut is similar to the design found on machine tools, lathes, etc..
Is it possible there was a split collar or collar with a set screw that's missing? Can you post a closeup of the spring and the "washer" it's shown sitting on? From the mark on the spindle, I'm wondering if that washer sits on the shaft, cocked by one of the springs to retain the spindle. But I don't know why there would be more than one spring.
