Help me with my garage

I have a 3 and spare change car garage and have been struggling with how to make it more user friendly and organized.

Its 22' deep in the 2 car section and 20' deep in the 1 car. The wide is 29' and the 1 car section is 10'. I have a hoist in the single car side and would like to store 2 cars, plus my riding mower, snow blower, and all the rest of the lawn stuff.

I plan on having a car on the hoist pretty much full time so using the 3rd bay to store things is not an issue so long as its easily moved stuff like a snow blower or riding mower. The pics were taken swapping out the clutch in our A6. I have 2 more cars waiting to get on the hoist for other work. Mechanical work is going to be my main focus.

Its a mess :)

Normally there are 2 cars and the door in the picture is going in the trash.

I have a trans hoist to store, 6' hydraulic jack stands, 3 regular jacks, goose neck oil container, 2 garbage cans that have to be easily accessible in and out of the garage...

I'm totally open to idea's. I have epoxy, the industrial stuff, for the floor already but I need to clean that up first. I do need heat/AC but all I care about is the heat/AC keeps the area around the hoist comfortable.

Idea's on lighting...where to put my air hose reel which is sitting on a stool right now. I just got the new HB tool chest and moved the compressor.

I have engine mounts for the compressor and will be mounting it there soon.

I have the 2 240 outlets for the hoist/compressor and those need to stay put.

I only have 1 double outlet behind the tool chest and one over near the door leading into the house, plus another on the small wall seperating the single door from the double door.

I'd like to greatly expand the electrical but my box in the basement is nearly full. What I'd prefer to do is redistribute what is already there. Nothing heavy duty will be used electrical wise. Lights, fans, but thats about it.

If I get a welder it'll be 240v. Maybe the Shop Vac...I can't imagine using more than 2 outlets at once but I'd like to put many more in for convienance sake.

I've kicked around putting the air compressor in the basement and running air into the garage but not sure about that one yet. I put the 240 in the garage and it would be easy to do it in the basement since the compressor would go where the panel box is but moving that monster doesn't excite me.

I prefer to stay econonomical. Those cabinets you see, $15 a piece on super close out at HD last year. That saved me a TON of space but I think they may need to go in order to get a more spacious setup.

Both of our cars will fit no problem with the table and that shelf there. That shelf is going to go and I'd like a better work table. That one is super cheap and has seen its better days.

I race and open track day/driving schools during the summer. Last year in an attempt to get my Corvette ready for a track day I hustled to get poly bushings installed in the car. So the torch + rubber bushings +no time left me with a rubber coated work table :)

Those cabinets are packed full of various stuff so I need to keep that stuff somewhere in the same physical space if I swap out cabinets.

Immediate to do are:

Lights, lots of them...I'm look at HFH stores right now and I'm going to run upto TSC and see what they have.

Floor...the floor is in poor shape stain/chemical wise. I need to get that cleaned, etched, and epoxied.

Mounting the Air compressor and safety strapping it and the tool chest.

Not sure where to go after that....I've looked at those garage organizer companies and honestly those people are on drugs, for the money they want I could build another garage :)

So here it is, be gentle...

its really just organisation that you need I think.

How about a worktop and cupboards down below replacing your wooden bench? Similar to those on the wall just now. Iy won't eat to much space and most things you have will hide away in the cupboards.

Agreed, you just need a countertop at the back and some more of those utility shelves along the left garage wall (I'd opt for metal racks over those plastic things).

Don't overlook the space above your garage door....
Take a step back with the door up...and look at how much space is up there....you can buy some wire mesh racks...not exactly cheap...but they have pretty much what you need.....or you can use something like unip-strut to make a rack for those long items.

I do a lot of wood working and have a lot of long pieces of wood from time to time....I plan on making some racks above my garage door to store the wood...or anything else like...like PVC pipe...copper pipe, etc.

Look into putting cabinets up high all around the garage. You can get a lot of stuff stored up high....put the bottom just above shoulder height and you really don't impact space on the side....and the bottom of those cabinets make a good place to mount a few flurescent lights on to give that garage some needed illumination.....
