Help needed with Kobalt Box

The top drawer on my Kobalt 5 drawer box won't open. I recently found a long lost set of keys for the box a few days ago and stuck them in the lock to make sure they were indeed the missing keys. The lock turns with no problem, but now the top drawer will not open. I'm pretty sure the bar is just not releasing all the way, but have no idea how to get to it. Any ideas? :headscrat

It might be a pia but empty the box, unlock it, and turn it upside down and the locking bar will release. Pull the drawer out while it is upside down....

LMFAO dude tons of folks on here will tell you the kobalt boxes are ****, even compared to the HF one.

To the original poster; I cant offer any help today.

But now thanks to 1984GMC I see the error of my ways and will go trash my KOBALT box and overextend my credit to purchase a box that meets his standards of excellance.... What a freeking tard

Whoa!? Was a little busy this weekend and never checked back with this thread, too bad, since it looks like I missed out on some expert tool box advice, too bad his comment got deleted, lol.

As for the box, I got it unlocked. It was a million times easier than I thought it might be. I simply opened the drawer below, slid a crowbar to the back, picked up the offending bar by the locking tab and opened the previously locked drawer. When I have more time I will remove the bars as Gary S suggested.

And for what it's worth, I have 2 of the Kobalt 5 drawer boxes and they have worked perfect for me. I bought them both on clearance (at different times) and have about $150 total in them, including new drawer liners. I bought the first one a couple of years ago to replace an old StackOn (!! Wonder what 1984GMC thinks about that !!) I'm more than happy with them.

My neighbor has a Kobalt and I think its very nice, just not my style. I don't know why people knock the red US General boxes? I just got one a couple of weeks ago and it is definitely good to go.

At least the Kobalt and US General boxes come with precut liners, unlike Craftsman.

I have the top and bottom stainless 40" Kobalt. I wanted to get the Craftsman but for the same price, the Kobalt blew it away. Better ball bearings, better casters, nice drawer liners, a built in power strip, better handles.

I'll get around to throwing my money away one of these days but it wasn't on this Kobalt chest.

Nothing wrong with Kobalt chests.

I too have the Kobalt 40" top and bottom sst combo. I got mine on the recommendation of two of our club members that have them. Our club also raffles one at our annual car show and poeple line up for tickets.
My only complaint about the chests are the self closing drawers.

:headscrat My drawers don't close by themselves--are they supposed to?

If I pull a drawer out completely, it'll stay open.

I'll check again tonight.
