Hi I'm new here found the site while trying to find out about a Parker 974B vise I just bought..what I am wondering is should it be a swivel base..the vise is held to the base by 2 bolts there is no lever to loosen to swivel the vise..all the other Parkers I have had all had a wrench type lever..the vise is labeled Parker 974B and when I google it they all come up as swivel bases..can anyone shed some light on this..Thanks

i have a 974 1/2 and it does swivel as does the 946B, and all of my parkers have three bolt bases wether they swivel or not. my 955 is a solid base vice but it has a lip that fits against the edge of the bench. if you are talking about the bolts that hold the upper part of the vice to the lower base they are two bolts that are loosened with a wrench that is c clipped to the bolt head. this is a thin box style wrench that i have seen on ebay a couple of times but since i have the wrenches for my vices i never bought one.

check out a thread by Catalyze. his 974 looks great plus it has a great picture of the bolts and correct wrench for your vice.

Welcome to GJ, rdeang. We got another one from the 'search for the old vise' scheme. It works every time. After all, vises are stored in garages or workshops, aren't they.

Congrats, you got lucky and got an answer in the first reply! That is just the service we provide around here. Also try the 'Search' feature at the top of the page.
