Help wiring up a capacitor.

Hi All,
first time post but a long time lurker. I'm trying to get a Delta 10" grinder running. Repacked the bearings and replaced the fan, and now trying to figure out how to wire everything together. There is 4 wires coming from the motor, 1 pair is red and gray, the other pair is yellow and gray. The red and yellow go to the centrifugal switch. My question is how is the capacitor and on/off switch all wired together?? Which wire goes to what?

I believe its a Delta Model 23-980 10" grinder. I just going by that because that's what looks closest to it. There was no tags, labels or serial numbers on it. It could be a Jet. The replacement fan I found that fit it was a Jet part number. It was a exact match just a different color. I put pictures in my album. I'm still trying to figure out how to get them to show up here. Its marked as public if that helps anyone see them.
The PO had a light switch wired in for power. I wrote down where he had everything wired to. I finished with the bearings, fan, paint and wired it back the way it was. Plugged it into a power strip to turn it on and off. With the motor switch on, i turned the power strip on and my shop lights blinked off then back on. I killed the power and turned the switch to off, turned the power back on and the motor began to hum. I tried turning the shaft and nothing happened. I decided he knew less about this than i did, so i removed everything but the 4 wires coming out of the motor and the power cord wires.

Here's a diagram of how i wired it. It runs now, but it runs with the motor switch in off. When I turn it on, the power strip trips. Can any of you electrical guru's tell me where i went wrong. Thanks for the help.

According to your diagram, and assuming black and white are line and neutral, you have the motor wired hot and the switch wired so it does nothing but create a dead short from line to neutral. Use the switch to break only the hot wire (black).

Sorry, It looks like that's how they had it wired originally and it is obviously not correct. Guess I should have looked at the picture closer instead of assuming it was right. Doesnt make any sense because it looks like it has been that way a long time.

On the other hand, you created a nice circuit breaker tester with switch. :thumbup:.

Once you start using it, make sure the motor doesn't get too hot while in operation. It's conceivably the motor could be wired incorrectly, but still run. If it doesn't get excessively hot while in use, I would say it's good.
