Well it took quite a while, but I finally have my hoist installed.

Way to go on the lift. What did you do to box the lift at the ceiling?

Since my ceiling height is only 11' 10" and the lift stands 12' 1" it was necessary to build a tunnel up between 2 trusses to accommodate the height.

Terminology 101 according to Charles.................... (this is my personal opinion, others may disagree)

You LIFT a car (or anything else, from underneath), you HOIST an engine (or anything else, from above).

Good luck on the lift!

While grammatically this is true, If you use the word "lift" to describe that in my neck of the woods, no one will no one will know what you're talking about. Everyone just calls it a hoist.
Guess it depends where you are.

So I did.

Def of Hoist from Merriam-Webster

to raise into position by or as if by means of tackle

Examples of HOIST

The steel girders were hoisted into place and securely welded.
The engine was hoisted out with a winch.
The cargo was hoisted up onto the ship.

Nope. The root meaning is to lift or raise. Especially :to raise into position by or as if by means of tackle, is the common use but not the sole use of the word.

Bazinga!
