I have 8 of them in my 20x20 with 2950 lumen philips tubes, they work well. I hung them 4" or so below the rafters so that they can move if I hit them accidentally.

The grids don't cast any kind of shadow, and they didn't have any problems starting through the winter.

AussieDan Thank You for the feed back!! I have a 38x40 shop in the rough stage right now and need to pick a light to use. I like the cool look of this light with the grid. I'm still not sure how many I should install or how far apart from each other and the space from the walls, so any input would be very helpful

Mine are laid out in a grid 4' off the walls with 4' spacing between them, but I'm no expert. When/if I build a fixed workbench they may get re-arranged to have light directly over the workbench.

I had 6 originally which worked ok when the door was down but with the door up (blocking the front pair) I wanted more light. With 8 (still only 2 blocked by the door) it's plenty bright.

I've read that a good light level is around 105-110 lumens/sqft and I'm right at 118 with the (8 fixtures * 2 tubes * 2950 lumens) / (20 * 20 ft), so I guess you'd need something like 30 fixtures to get that light level in a 38 x 40 with 2950 lumen tubes (30 * 2 * 2950 = 177000, 38 * 40 = 1520, 177000 / 1520 = 116.45)

AussieDan - Do you have any issues with RFI?

I also like the look of these (and the added protection of the grid) and was thinking of picking up 8 for my 19' x 19'.

To be honest I couldn't tell you, the only radio frequency equipment I've used out there is wifi which seems to work fine.

They're not particularly heavy-duty fixtures, but the ballasts are completely encased inside the grounded steel enclosure of the fixture so I would expect that they should be decent in terms of RFI.
