I can almost see them on the lakes already. Should give the lake rangers something else to complain about.

I see military application

bob

I think it works on the Ground Effect Theory. The video seems show it flying close to the surface and never up high like a ultra-light. Similar to the Russian Ekranoplane technology from the cold war. I remember seeing a show about them on Military or Discovery a few years ago.

Either way, it's awesome. Wouldn't want to be the guy who dipped the wing in the water like others have mentioned.

It looks to me that it is too high up for that theory. At around :32 into it, it shows it up maybe 12 feet or a little higher. Too high for the Ground Effect Theory for something that size. The GET uses a cushion of air to ride on. That is what he has when he is skimming the water.

i doesnt work quite the same as the ekranoplanes.. those have forward thrust, and the wings are what make the vortices of air that it rides on.. this one here has its own downward thrust from underneath

I just read the ad that sick puppy linked from trademe. The ad states "It is infact a W.I.G[wing in ground effect]" which is the same as ground effect vehicle. The wikipedia entry has some interesting information on the three classes of ground effect craft:

Type A cannot operate out of ground effect.
Type B can jump to clear obstacles by converting kinetic energy (speed) into potential energy (height), but cannot maintain flight without the support of the ground effect.
Type C are certified as aircraft, with the ability to operate safely and efficiently in ground effect.

Check out the questions the seller has been asked under the listing. There are some strange people out there.

lol Yeah, there were some strange questions alright! This auction made the headlines as it was such an unusual vehicle, and Kiwis love their garage-based inventors! Of course, for really strange questions, you should check this auction:

Ooh, and this one too- an actual site for it:

your right, I cant see it anymore. Why would youtube do that. Perhaps the inventor decided he no longer wanted it public? That thing would take off and go up pretty high.

here is another one on the same craft
