Hot Dawg Mounting Question

Asking for a friend..........he wants to mount a 45k Hot Dawg on a shelf, mounted to a wall in his garage

Vent will be CAT III, ran horizontal

Any issues with clearance issues to "combustibles" when setting the heater down onto a shelf made from wood (2x4s and plywood)?

What about a rubber mat under the heater to help with vibrations?

I’ve got a 2 Sterling Garage Guy 75,000BTU heaters, similar to Modine Hot Dawg. This is from the install manual.

“CLEARANCES: Each Gas Unit Heater shall be located with respect to building construction and other equipment so as to permit access to the Unit Heater. Clearance between vertical walls and the vertical sides of the Unit Heater shall be no less than 1 inch (25.4mm). However, to ensure access to the control box and fan, a minimum of 18 inches (457mm) is required for the fan, and control box side. A minimum clearance of 1 inch (25.4mm) must be maintained between the top of the Unit Heater and the ceiling. The bottom of the Unit Heater must be no less than 1 inch (25.4mm) from any combustible. The distance between the flue collector and any combustible must be no less than 1 inch (25.4mm). Also see AIR FOR COMBUSTION and VENTING sections.
NOTICE: Increasing the clearance distances may be necessary if there is a possibility of distortion or discoloration of adjacent materials.”

I would assume the Modine unit is similar, but you should be able to view a Modine manual online to be sure

What I read is nothing can be under the heater. For a horizontal exhaust you need 5’ of pipe so even if you have a bend or two you will be about 3 feet from one wall. The other sides and top of the heatercsn be closer.

My modine, if I recall correctly was 8' clear below the heater

Shelf mounted units: The unit heater can also be installed on a shelf. The mounting brackets will need to be attached to the heater the same manner as explained in note #4, however, to mount on a shelf the brackets must go on the bottom of the heater. The brackets must be affixed to the shelf using similar screws (1/4" screw with 1/2" washer) as overhead joist or truss mounting. Be sure all clearance to combustible requirements are met.
