What do you think that the minimum size should be for a one car garage? I'm very limited on space on my new property, so just wondering.

15 X 20?

The minimum size? It depends on what you're going to do in the garage. Are you going to store stuff in there in addition to your car?

10 x 20 is probably close to the minimum size, considering most cars are around 5 feet wide and 15 feet long. This leaves a couple extra feet on all sides.

15 feet wide won't be so bad, but the length could hurt you if you're putting a larger vehicle inside. One side of my garage is 20 feet deep & I use it for parking only. If I put my pick up truck there, (Extended cab Ford F-150) it fits with only inches to spare. The garage door is actually mounted on the inside of the front wall, so the thickness of the door plus the horizontal strengthening supports, (I forget what they call them offhand) take up almost 5" or so.

I literally cannot walk in front of, or behind the truck unless I open the overhead door. If you need a work bench or shelving at the rear, you better have a Mini Cooper. Try to go no less than 22 feet deep, but if you can't & 20 is all you can fit, go as wide as possible to make up for it. It's nice to open a door, clear any obstacle that may be inside the garage, & not have to shimmy your way in or out of the car.

How big? If I had a airplane hanger I'd fill it up in no time.
Don't forget to get some height in it too. My ceiling is 8'-6' but I wish I had 10'.
It is also cheap because it is not added roof or added slab. Just walls which are the least costly piece of the building.

As big as you can possible make it! Garage space is just like horsepower. Some is good, more is better, and too much is just enough.

That's only because you have one chance to do this right, so pay now or you'll pay later... :willy_nil

18X18' here built in the 1920s. I built a 15X6' shed on the back with a connecting doorway, works out fine for me.
I'm having a driveway done this summer and doing walls and ceiling,in wood and pegboard.

Not sure about your cars, but both of mine vehicles are over 5' wide, and they're pretty standard cars. don't forget about doors.

10' x 20' is bare minimum, park and exit. If you want to tinker, 12 to 15 x 24 if possible. Agree with above - if you plan to work in the space, figure the max and do it now. Money, time and materials never seem to get cheaper.
