How do you change steering fluid?

Is there a better way of jacking up and cranking without starting the engine?

I read some people just use a turkey baster to remove some fluid at a time.

When you start the engine and idle, how fast is the fluid being displaced in the resevoir? or will it come out Flooding if you leave the cap open to look at it?

last time I did it was on a hard to reach late 90's ford ****** and I couldn't/ didn't want to get to the lines so I used an old tow helper bags that you put inside of a coil spring and fill with air. just put some air line on it and compressed the bag so when it expanded back, it had enough vacuum to **** it out through the air line that I put in the reservoir, took a couple goes but it worked. I used the same thing on a bobcat who's drain plug was seized and had some questionable fluid in

Wrong forum... what car? Easy way:

* **** reservoir dry (turkey baster, syringe, vacuum extractor)
* fill reservoir with new fluid
* start car and turn wheel back and forth (fully) a few times
* turn engine off
* **** reservoir dry again

* rinse repeat till you go thru 1-2 qts of PS fluid (or ATF, whatever the spec calls for)...

Remove belt
Remove return hose and route into catch container
Turn pully by hand or some pumps have a bolt on the front of the shaft or a hex drive and you can use an aur ratchet to turn them

* fill reservoir with new fluid
* start car and turn wheel back and forth (fully) a few times
* turn engine off
* **** reservoir dry again

* rinse repeat till you go thru 1-2 qts of PS fluid (or ATF, whatever the spec calls for)...

I did this with a mity vac. Worked great and yes I would start it up and turn the wheels as they were not in air.
