How do you keep your wrenches?

I have a small Walmart roller tool box. ( know I need a nice new big box from HarborFreight) which is not nearly big enough. In my tool box I have 4 or 5 different wrench sets. I used to keep these all hung on the walls with small nails. Well I got tired of the neighbors being able to see all my stuff so in the drawer they went. Now it takes me forever to find the wrench I am looking for.

So I went looking for something to keep them nice and neat in. I found some wrench drawer organizers but they won't fit my small drawers. So I had to pass on them.

What do you guys have in your boxes to keep your wrenches in order? I was/am hoping for something cheap and easy but works great.

Thank for any and all comments.

Not sure how much room you have but you could get a metal ring (like a binder ring) that closes and is secure and place them on it in size order. I saw someone on here do something similar for their tool bag they carried in a car.

Or you could get a wrench roll to put them in

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic. Since I never want to take the whole set out of the drawer, I use the foam "universal tool" set from Sears. It's the best way I've found to fit 2 sets of wrenches in the drawers on my box(Kobalt-branded Waterloo Traxx P.O.S.).

Oh, and, yes, the wrenches missing in the pic have since been returned to their proper place!

What size are your drawers? Their are a number of different racks, rails, holders etc. Some members have done a great job of shadowing their drawers for a more custom layout. I just keep mine in racks. I was looking at different methods. But I'm a creature of habit and what I have now works fine for my needs.

*Please keep the snickering of my raised panels to a minimum.

Fubar: are the rails you have S.O. if so they have been making them for over 30 yrs, got my first ones in 78. They have a very low profile and the 2 sided tape is good until you decide to move them.

Now for the "Make your own type," a friend used some scrap 12ga sheet metal cut in a large pie shape bent a 90 on the long and short end about 3/4-1" tall, drilled and brazed a nut on the short end tab and used a thumb screw to tighten down on the side of the wrenches pinching them tight. Worked good on his service truck, the S.O. rails are great in the shop but seem to reorganize your tools in the truck going across the fields. He made one of these for every one of his sets, even the bigger 1 1/2- 2 1/2" sets.

That's why I use the foam "racks". No fields but 170,000+ sq ft of production floor to cover. I got tired of spending part of every day putting wrenches back in the open holders and the locking type wouldn't fit in the drawers with 1/4-1 /14" and whatever my metric set is (6-22mm, plus a couple of extras).

Yep, they are, but I don't take the tape off. The weight of the wrenches holds them down (and not slamming the drawers)...

I started off laying them down in the drawer and realized I had about three drawers full of wrenches that way. I happened by Sears and found these neat holders. They still sell them. They're about $10 each (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00965223000P?keyword=wrench+organizer&mv=tr).

Unfortunately they only come in smaller sizes. So I took the idea and got a strip of plywood an put wood screws through it for the larger stuff.

After seeing what some of you have done I may change that.

How do I keep my wrenches? I keep em' lubed up, horizontal with the open ends up, and locked up. (Kinda like how I keep my women.)

FUBAR, Can we assume that you have Metric on one side and SAE on the other...........
working toward the center of the drawer???????????

Nope. They are all in there symmetrically so as many fit as possible. I use them enough that I know where everything is without looking....

You're a Camaro Judge? So you know what this is....

Fubar- you'r the reason why I signed up for this website. I googled the word "toolbox" and stumbled across the tool box thread. Saw some "ok" tool boxes.... saw some nice ones. Then I came across your wrench pics and knew I HAD to join this website. Finally I have found people that understand my obsession with tools. =)

Glad to know I could help:)

I just signed up in Jan because of the 1930s auto shop resto. People always comment when I open that drawer...
