How to delete a thread

I would like to delete a thread that I started, but can't seem to figure it out. I thought if I deleted my first post that the whole thread would be gone, but it won't let me, it lets me edit my first post so I just deleted all the words and tried to save it, but it tells me I need at least four characters to save it, thats not solving my problem... any help would br great..

My understanding is you can not delete a thread / post once some one has responded / replied to it.
