Hypertherm 45 XP Question

My dad and brother-in-law are up at the Springfield Swap Meet, and found a Hypertherm Plasma cutter they are interested in. The guy told them that it is 3 phase, but when my Brother-in-law called Hypertherm they acted as though it could be single or 3 phase. I know the Thermal Arc tig welder I used to have could run on either phase, but if you ran it single phase, you just didn't use one of the legs from the power cord into your plug.

Anybody have experience with this model? Is it a multi-phase unit or are they specific to single or 3 phase?

Thanks in advance...

Yea so my brother's mother's second uncle just bought a Ford car. The guy that sold it said it takes premium gas. But then the sister's dad's nephew called and ford and they said it runs on regular or premium.

What do you think?

In all seriousness if you had a model number you might get somewhere...

Obviously reading comprehension isn't your strong point is it? The model is in the title. Second, if you don't actually have an answer, why bother posting anything at all.

In all seriousness, the level of stupidity of some people astonished me.

HAHA, guess I missed that one. No reason for name calling though, it is surprising how often people ask questions without giving much or any information.i guess my sarcasm might have been a little much.

Looks like Wylie found it.

I have had to call hypertherm customer service a few times for machine at a previous employer and have resolved that if I ever buy a plasma cutter with my own money I will buy a Hypertherm.

Their customer service was excellent, and probably still is.

Our old Hypertherm PowerMax 900 is the same way. Can run on 240 single, 240 3-phase, 480 3-phase, or even 480 single phase if that's what you got. You just have to change some jumper wires around in the back.

It's not the same, either three phase unit or single phase unit on the 45XP.. Not both.. The 65. and 85 run multi voltage and 1/3 in one unit..

Nope.

According to the manual its 240v single or 480v 3 phase.

Just like the Thermal Dynamics 101/151 of 15 years ago. It started that design) You could have one phase or 3 phase, but not both..

I do have a 45xp in my shop, with single phase only input. (208-240 volts)

Says all that needs to be said. Why not just do a quick search on google so jerks like me don't need to supply smart *** answers?

As the comments above show, the manual was very confusing, hence the reason I was asking if anybody had one.

Turns out some can run both phases, but this particular one will only run on 3 phase.

Turns out it's single phase machine or three phase machine but not both phases in one model of the machine.. Like I said above. Same way as the Thermal Dynamics 60i.. The larger 65-85 is multi-voltage and multi phase.Something the 45XP is not.

What part of the manual is confusing?

Seemed pretty straight forward to me...

The manual lists the input voltages, including both ratings. It's not really made clear until later on in the manual that the 3 phase and 1 phase machine are two different models. It's really bizarre considering my old PowerMax 900 is far more flexible in that regard.
