I.D. on odd locking handle pliers

Found these today, just too weird to pass up. Slip joint, spring loaded friction plate lock on handle. No markings. Anybody have an ID and age?

Looks like something a Dentist would use to pull teeth. Are they stainless ?

These locking pliers seem to match a US Patent filed by Walter Sarvie of Alexandria Minnesota and Sarvie Tool Co. of Alexandria, MN.

Don't look like stainless - just chrome plated steel. And I found JAPAN on a jaw under some grease. So, could be a Japanese clone after the original patent ran out.
