Not much experience with cement, but I have laid a ton of tile and generally recognize the correct consistency. However yesterday I used a mixer and 80lb bags of quikrete ready mix to pour an apron for my garage. The first few bags mixed fine but the last few bags I couldn’t get mixed well. It seemed that the aggregate was collecting cement like a snow ball. I poured it into a wheelbarrow and worked it with a hoe. But as you can see from pics, it didn’t turn out good. After screeding it pulled out a lot of material I tried to fill it back in but ended up with what you see. Any ideas on what I did wrong, and will a resurface product work to fix. Thanks.

That mix looks dry to me. You could mix up some sand mix and trowel it on while the new stuff is still green. But my real suggestion is to pull up what’s there and start again. When I use a mixer I usually put a little water in the barrel first then add the mix and the rest of the water.

I don't think that you can rely on thenmix in sackcrete being of consistent proportions. At least that has been my experience.

I'd suggest a product called Ardex CD. We've had really good results over the years. It will take a broom finish and holds up surprisingly well
Some bags were all cement some were all aggregate.
By chance, was this concrete mix from Menards ?

That looks like it lacked enough water, or it sat too long waiting to be worked. Not to tell you your business, but, here in Halfassed, if concrete looks like that, we tear it out and do it again. Next time, a bit more water, and a couple shovels full of Portland. Quickcrete runs a little lean.
Thanks for all replies. I did rip it up. The middle looked like gray popcorn. It was no good. I have little experience with concrete but I have never seen bag after bag not mix. Every bag ended up with the aggregate the size of golf balls. I want to redo it but am hesitant to buy more bags of quikrete since every bag was like this. I did add 4 quarts to some bags but it still balled up. I only need 15 80# bags.
I have thought about pavers since I did a lot of paver patios but the driveway slopes to over 6” below slab fro left to right. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

From the looks of your work stick with the concrete. I got 12 bad bags this year. Good luck on next try.

Most areas have someone with one of those trailer mounted mixers that deliver small batches. Do a search for small batch concrete delivery.
