The craftsman 123 piece set no longer available, I'd buy 2 right now if it was.

Any others? Cant seem to find the SK variant online either.

Price is irrelevent at this point:lol_hitti

If price is not an issue, definitely buy the Snap-On semi-deeps. They are my favorite sockets. Now, I only use shallow or deep when needed since the semi-deeps work most of the time.

I bought my Snap-on sets off of Ebay. I paid less than half of truck price, shipped, and both sets were new. You have to check it everyday and not get in a hurry, the bidding can get away from you pretty quickly if you fall in love with an item.

I think Snap-on and MAC both offer mid length sockets. Here's the snappy set 211FSSY, $178.05

just bid on some SO on ebay. Should have included that I was looking for a retail (fast replacement) option.

Any other brands to check out besides SK that their deep sockets are actually shallow compared to standard?

I second. Don't want to throw money at it, like SnapOn, but I really like mid length sockets myself. I have a few, mostly older Craftsman and would love to buy a set, but not at SnapOn retail.

i've had such good luck with my 1/2" SK swivel impact sockets i decided to try and order the mid-depth sockets i linked above and, no surprise, they aren't available :( here's to hoping ideal re-releases these things (along with the 0 offset super long g ratcheting wrenches).

the nepros are super nice. i'm not sure the fastener hex portion is really deep enough (have to measure how much deeper than std depth), but they are definitely high quality - on par with any tool truck chrome socket i've come across. their fit on fasteners is good and snug, the chrome appears to be excellent. i've only used them a few times over the last week so can't comment on their durability, but the consensus appears to be that they are very high quality tools.

interestingly, they are shipping direct from japan, and yet i received my order in just a few days - as fast or faster than shipping from the west coast (i'm near DC). shipping cost is very reasonable as well although some people have inconsistently paid importation fees. see the 'nepros hand tools' thread for details.

I have picked up a bunch of SK ones at surplus stores and pawn shops.

I picked up both sets of 6pt 1/4 SK mid length. I think both sets were 60 dollars on special in the NAPA weekly flyer. I would have bought the 3/8 had the had them. No luck on those

lol I was just about to suggest the Koken ones, and was going to point to either you or Quattrojon for them!

I figure they'll be pretty pricey though since they're not commonly stocked... can you please either post or PM me a price too please? Thanks!

I have a mixed bag of Matco & Cornwell metric semi-deeps (2007-2009 styles). Both extremely nice. I would HIGHLY recommend either of the two. The lengths & throat depth are perfect from each manufacturer. I'm not 100% sure, but I think either set would run close to $150 for 8mm-19mm.

Can ya'll post pics of the emblems on your SK mid lengths. I am trying to figure out how old the ones I have are. They have the Diamond SK logo on them. Will try to get some pics tonight.

honest question, what is the purpose of mid length? is it one of those situations where I dont realize how often I would use them?

They make a great compromise socket, handy but not so long you can't get them in there, not fragile like some long small sockets.

In those sizes I have the mid in, they are the first ones I pick unless it's a high torque (for the size) application.
Since they 'replace' both long and short, if you could only carry one set, that would be the best one.

When I saw this post about 10 days ago I clicked on the link that RbrtAWhyt provided above. The Sears site listed 5 sets available. I ordered one set and it was delivered today.

Same deal. I saw them a few days ago, ordered, and got an email saying they shipped today.

They're OOS on the web page now ... but they do come back in stock periodically.
