I needed another toolbox

like I need a hole in my head but for 35 dollars there was no way I wouldnt let it follow me home.

Never had a Kennedy and I am surprised at how well made it is, heavy and rust free.

Im guessing a carpenter owned it and it has sat in its box a long time cause the bottom and sides are rustfree/pretty darn clean.

Maybe made in the 60 or 70s cause of its construction but I would like to know more about it.

Is that 12 or 18" deep? I have a few of the more modern 18" deep versions. Kinda a goofy box. Too tall for a middle box, yet no top till. I'd say 50's-60's. Somewhere I have a catalog scan of those.

Id like to see what you may have, it measures approx 15.5 front to rear, I can post a picture this evening after I get home. Thanks

I dont know what you mean by image title, I went back and reread your post and the only thing I see is 50 or 60s but thanks for the info.

I wonder how many years they made this particular version unchanged and the way it is. Your photo looks identical to my box.

Also I swear my box is model 295 while the catalog shows a 285. I wonder how that works?

I'm fairly certain it is a 285 and the decal is just worn off on the 8 to make it look like a 9. The 295 is a bottom tool box. Kennedy is pretty consistent with their box numbers they still make a 285 which is just the deeper version. The first two being the width, last being the drawer count for this style box.

The true machinists chests are a bit different
520 = 20" wide chest
526 = 26" wide chest

Im sure you are right and thanks, I will however for peace of mind really scrutinize the label tomm back at the shop. I suppose with it being that old that a lock will be out of the question so I will have to see whats left of the original and see if anything can be salvaged. I do believe there is a possibility.
