I was doing some driveshaft work this week and needed some impact hex and torx sockets. I had to borrow the torx and had to make due with an allen key set (not fun). I haven't bought any impact in a while, but back a 5yrs or so ago Sunex was considered a pretty good option, but now I understand all their stuff is china. I'd rather not buy Chinese tools so wondering what is a good recommendation for some impact hex and torx these days? Thanks.

Gripedge honestly gets my vote, it took a bit for me to become a believer, but between my RPT and Mac RBRT stuff, I'm thoroughly impressed with it. More so if you live anywhere where corrosion becomes a factor.

I have Tekton in torx and hex impact so I can absolutely whale on it with the impact and know that a replacement is just an email away.

Those are pricey. Honestly I haven't heard of them before. I did round out 2 torx heads 2 days ago - it was not a fun day.

I started out using non impact bit sockets on impacts, then I bought the Harbor Freight impact bit sockets. After that, when I needed something to finish a job , I bought it at a parts store while buying parts. Beyond that, I amended it all with estate/garage sale items.

At this point, the majority (95%) of my real impact bit sockets are 1/2” drive.

Some stuff, like XZN, I still have mostly in just chrome. I will use them on an impact if I absolutely have to, but I try to use a ratchet first. So far, this almost always works.

I have hammered in the next Torx size up into soft Swiss cheese hardware so many times.

I have rounded out the heads of cheap hardware more often with hand tools than with impacts. If things are really going sideways, I bring out the hand impact.

The gripedge Torx bits are definitely worth it, but maybe just get the common sizes like T25, T30, t40.

If you have a HF near you the Pittsburgh Torx/hex impact sockets are pretty good. Made in Taiwan and have held up for me.
