indirect fired heaters

Looks like a viable option for my situation. My house uses oil heat so a gas heater is out of the question. I also don't want to use an unvented torpedo heater.

I have only used the non-vented ones. They put out a lot of heat and they do it fast. The non-vented ones put out a lot of moisture also. The venting should take care of that.
They are REAL noisy.

I had one and it was terrible in a closed garage. It would heat the garage quickly, but it would also burn your eyes with the by products of its combustion. I vote no.

You are thinking of a direct fired unit. Indirect fired units do not put products of combustion into the air stream.
