Wondering if there are rules against where these should be installed...

Ah. I would have a couple 240v outlets, which aren't GFCI.

Is there a measurement spec for how close they can be?

240 are dedicated circuits for plugging grounded equipment in to,do not require gfci, I cant recall any code sections as long as they are not installed in a shower enclosure. Makes sense to install them where they wont get sprayed with water.

My hose bib is about 18 inches from my meter box.
Both were contractor and utility installed at the time of build.

I thought about putting a reel elsewhere, but it just makes sense to put a reel in this particular spot. I could maybe put it on the cinderblock stem wall (18" high) below the outlets or on the floor below the outlets, but I hate stuff on the floor.

I won't be spraying the outlets obviously and I wouldn't expect the reel to leak, but you never know.

can you get a out door weather rated cover for the outlet and then just install your water hose reel? That would at least protect the outlet from random drips or overspray....

Hmm. Interesting idea.

Another idea would be to put up a "blast shield" in case there is any type of water leak at the hose real. Something like a sheet of stainless steel that protrudes 4-6" past the hose real, possibly with some bends in it to further deter water from hitting the receptacle.

Anyone remember what the distance away from a sink outlets have to be GFCI protected? I'd guess that would be the most applicable code to follow.

This is required by code for wet or damp locations. But the code also specifies these areas as "outdoors".

As stated earlier GFCI recept's are only required on 15 and 20 amp general use recept. circuits.

I can't think of any applicable rules on this side of the border,so just let your good common sense be your guide.
