I'm thinking about picking up this box, but I can't shake the idea that it might not be a real SO box. I can't find much about it online, other than close matches, but I know the logo is old so... Just not sure. The handles remind me of MBC, and it's parked right next to an MBC box, so it leaves me wondering if this is a badge but not real SO.

Any thoughts on the matter are always appreciated.

If it's real SO, any idea on a ballpark price?

Snap on is just a G.D. name. Geeze. Ask yourself this.... Do I like the box? Is the price right? Will it serve my purpose? Then....... when you get it all set up in your garage, give us some photos!

If you knew me better, you'd know that my question has absolutely nothing to do with the name on the box - I could not care less. What I want to know is what to expect on price, and is the seller trying to pass it off as more than what it is. I don't have a price on it yet, and since I can't figure out what it is - I have no idea what a fair price is.

Geeze! Too much time spent on GJ and you get over-sensitive about G.D. SO groupies I guess... :dunno:

Agh ****, didn't mean to get anyone **** hurt. Not my intention. I have a few snap on things. I like snap on. Snap on GOOD! I just read...."I'm thinking about picking up this box, but I can't shake the idea that it might not be a real SO box." and so I just meant that SO is just a GD name. If the box is built well, and you like it, then make them an offer. I just didn't want you lying in bed in cold sweats thinking that you might not have an authentic snap on tool box, I mean omfg.:) If you do get it though, be sure to give us some photos, serious! (Smiley face to show I'm funning you..... :):):):):):):):):))

Yep. That's a Snap-On box. It was very likely made in 1957. I have the roller bottom for that box.

Given the condition issues that the top box has, 50 bucks would be my top dollar.

This is hilarious to me because I almost used the exact term "butthurt" in my first response to you.
Sounds like we're on the same page then. ;)

Thanks for the responses and letting me know it is what it is. Also thanks for the idea on price. I was finally able to find out, they're asking $125 as it sits (not tools) or anything. If I do end up with it, does anyone know if the lock can be replaced since it's MIA? I may wait and see if he softens on price before feeling I need to race over and get it.

Ahhh good. And we have verification that the box is indeed a snap on so now you can proceed and perhaps get some much needed sleep. :D

Yeah, too much for that box IMO. If you were closer, I'd hook you up with a nice box like that. I have a couple extras.

I think somebody's playing around. That exact same box is listed here in Atlanta for $425.

I have a very similar box, it's badged as Williams. It's even the same color, except black wrinkle finish lid. I think someone made those boxes and put the logo of your choice on them for a lot of different companies.

It's a good box. I wouldn't be so critical as to say it's only worth $50. If the drawers work good, it'd be competitive with many newer boxes costing $250 to $350 new.

That said, i paid $50 for mine, and it had the key and lock. But, that was 22 years ago.

Thanks once again for the responses - and for driving home the point that it's a little pricey for how it sits. On one level I know this, but on another there is a part of me saying "go see it". And I know that "go see it" will become "buy it!"
I believe waiting will soften the price, and I'm fine with that. If someone else buys it beforehand, then it wasn't meant to be...

This actually somewhat makes sense. Obviously you see me over here in Louisiana, but the box is in Atlanta. I'm going there to visit my folks next week so I was looking ahead. The box was NOT from CL though, so I suspect someone may be trying to "presell" with plans of going to buy it to flip. Thank you very much for telling me about this!

Box was gone when I called this morning. The price was still $125 so I'm fine with it. Thanks all, I'll find the right one eventually. ;)

Someone overpaid. There are plenty of old high quality boxes out there and many can be had without the Snap-On premium.

For example, this entire Kennedy stack is sitting for 150 OBO.
