Alright guys.... I am super siked. We got the city permit approved last Friday and we have been making payments on the home equity loan since August.

Getting a huge garage approved by Austin TX is a painful experience. Anybody know what a McMansion law is? Welp, working around it we got what we wanted. I am 33 and this is my first real garage not counting rentals I have lived in. I cant wait.

They scraped the yard and made a mess to begin constuction on the forms. I have a general contractor that will get us through drying in the garage but I will take it from there. A crew can bang it out faster than I can and I already burned that bridge with the wife when I built our addtion (master + bath). Took 2 years to complete.

We went with 10' ceilings in the garage space (2 wide X 2 deep) because of the McMansion laws and the fact it was 2 stories. In short the sq footage of the garage area and the "storage area" on the second floor is bigger than our house. Ahhhh..... (House = 1550 sq/ft, New Garage = 1800 est sq/ft)

So I have a couple of questions.
1. Heated floors/slab worth it in central Texas? I tend to think no, but if ever I want it now (during the pour) would be the time.

2. Going to have a lift (obviously) and wanted to have some in floor lighting underneath the lift. Any suggestions? I was thinking about just blocking off some space and prewiring it for some long CFC light and putting a steel grid over it. Going to talk to the electrician for some ideas also.

CONGRATS ON THE BUILD. I would not think you need the heating in the floor. I’m out in Dripping Springs and have a 40x60 garage and this last month even with the temps in the teens it was not a big issue. For the one or two weeks that you will find yourself needing to heat the garage, I would look at spending that money on just better insulation and house wrap. That will pay off year round. I have a great contact on a cement guy if you are shopping around.

I'd like to revise my comment on the under slab foam,I don't think you need it. You are so far south I think you have more of a problem with heat than cold. The cool slab may help you more in the hot months. If it was me I would spend my money elasewhere.

Welp... 8 days have passed and I am like a kid before Christmas. I can't wait, but it is seems slow going but I will manage.

I took yall's advise and opted out of the heated slab. Spend that money elsewhere.

I am doing a time lapse film for each day. 1m40s is about a 19 hour day. Should get real fun to watch when the framing is going up. I will make sure to post a link here.

After the scrape, here come the forms, beams, and cables, plumbing and most importantly passed inspections.
