I probably hold the record for longest time from join date to first post, just shy of 11 years. Now it's time to try and give back.
I've been lurking for 11 years enjoying all the different garages and build styles. I've learned alot about various construction techniques and building in general. For 30 years I've been working out of my 19' x 20' small 2 car garage which is a bit cramped. Even in the small space I was able to perform motor swaps and a few car rebuilds.
My long term goal was to have a larger garage and it is now underway. Using the knowledge I gained from the garage journal, I have been able to figure out what kind of garage I wanted, how I will use it, what to look out for in selecting a builder, building contracts, truss designs, how to perform an interior lighting analysis and what work I will be able to perform myself.
I need to start a thread in the gallery to document the build, so others can learn like I did. Some of the details are 40x64x14, it is a post frame construction(pole barn) that will be finished out on the inside. 3 overhead doors with 3 man doors. It's being built in the mountains of Colorado, designed for 80psf snow load(no reductions) and 130 mph wind load.
I just want to say thanks for providing the forum to allow myself and others to become educated in all this garage stuff.
