Janitrol was made by Goodman manufacturing and is a decent piece of equipment ( they are old however ) Goodman hasnt used the Janitrol name in many years . What is your freind asking for the heater ?

To be honest, I am not sure. He said make an offer, and I bet he'd take 1-200. The thing is, I could buy a 45k Mr Heater (garage is 600 sq ft) for about $400 and get a warrantee, an owners manual, the install experience of dozens here, etc. I am afraid with the Janitrol I am rolling the dice and hoping it works. Or am I making too much of this?

Joel to be honest I throw away old units like that on a regular basis . I would say if its in REALLY good shape you might offer him $100.00 for it but if theres any signs of rust in the heat exchanger area or anywhere else for that matter save your money and get the Mr. Heater.

I agree with Rick, I'd be leery about even $100. Would he let you make sure it worked before payment???

I got a 100k free. But had to re-wire and put a new fan motor on it. So I've got $150 in it. (If I had to spend much more I'd went with a new one)

Also think about the exhaust- The older units don't have forced draft, therefore you must have a taller vent pipe than the new units. You can rack up some extra money for the install by having the taller vent. (I've had to extend mine cause I was having draft issues. I'm 5' above the roof and still sometimes have draft issues when the furnace lights)
