Kennedy tool boxes are REALLY GREAT USA made top notch QUALITY they will last for ever, They will also make a tool box in any color you see on the web page even if it isn't stocked in that color as listed in the discription all you have to do is ask. A few years ago they did make tool boxes for Cornwell but Cornwell has now gone back to Waterloo for most of the tool boxes plus the imported tool carts, well Waterloo now builds boxes in Mexico so some are imports too.

Kennedy tool boxes is to Machinists/Maintenance/Maufacturing trade like Snap On is to the Mechanics trade. Kennedy is solid and will last a couple life times with minimum maintenance.

I have a Kennedy 275 cabinet with the 283 and 285 chests on top. The bottom two have ball bearing slides and the 285 is standard compound. I had Craftsman previously and the Kennedy's are much heavier especially the drawers. They have a mechanics line currently available (check their website). The benchmark series I saw at the factory store was incredible. They are made in Van Wert, Ohio. If anyone is ever close to Van Wert it's worth a stop at the store (located with the office/factory) just to see their collection of old Kennedy boxes that date back to when they first started.

I don’t want to start a popcorn war here – but I replaced a Kennedy box with a Snap-on recently, there is little comparison. The Kennedy is oriented towards machinists and I found that as a mechanic I hard time getting any storage capacity for mechanics tools out of it. It’s a very good box, but the comments so far are correct. If you are more of a machinist then the Kennedy is for you. However, the quality of the Snap-On box is far more superior if you ask my opinion.
Regards,
Rick

The problem with kennedy is they do not have any selection when it comes to larger cabs/chests. The Benchmark series only offers 2 styles....the 46" chest and cab and the 60" cab. The nice thing is you can get a 46" cab for $1595 (penn tool co. --you may find it less expensive elsewhere) compared to something like a Snap-On KRA4813 40" which is $2295. I have a friend who used a Kennedy when he started out as a diesel mechanic but outgrew it and now has a huge Snap-on. His Snap-on is built like a tank and about as big as one:)
Keep an eye on Craigslist--Snap-on boxes usually show up there also check your Snap-on dealer. My friend was able to get his slightly used off the truck for a big discount.
Keep in mind, unless you have a place to get a Kennedy from that's close by you will probably have to pay shipping. If price is a consideration then the Kennedy is definately worth looking at.

I own 4 Kennedy boxes and 1 Gerstner ... my precision measuring tools will NOT be stored in anything else. Period.

Like has already been mentioned, Kennedy's are to Machinists what Snap On rollers are to Mechanics.

2 different boxes for 2 totally different purposes.

Amen, I do the same thing just fewer boxes, With that we can all leave the air poppers on the shelves.

I have a a Kennedy box I use for mechanics tools. The bottom is the std 26" wide with six 3" deep drawers and three 4" deep ones. I like it a lot. One of the cool things about it was that it came with friction slides and a lower bin door which I was able to replace with additional drawers off the Kennedy website. I also replaced several of the friction sliders with roller sliders. Because mine was one of the newer style modular box's I was able to reposition the drawers to my liking. I don't believe it's built as tough as my older Snapon or Mac, but I've loaded it down and haven't had any problems with it yet. Here's a pic from when I brought it home and before I updated the drawers.

I am in the process of going back to Mechanics..when I was a f/t Mechanic I had a snap-on roll cab with a side 5 Drawer Kennedy Box I used to store my measuring tools ,calipers.gauges mic's etc..I also have 2 small kennedy Machinist boxes in My home shop for my lathe and precision tools for woodworking..I am going the same route this time as well with a Kennedy Side Cabinet...I no longer have a sanp-on roll cab but have a stacked Craftsman set-up..I got a nearly new Kennedy side cabinet for less than
1/2 retail..I really like the Kennedy Boxes and the way they are built...very close to being equal in construction to Snap-on..plus brown and red go together well..:)
