I have recently picked up a vintage Snap-On KR-488 tool cart, as the title states. I will be restoring the cart as it's in decent shape with a bit of abuse along its journey. One of the 1"x1" square steel legs has a kink where the middle shelf would attach. There is currently only a top and bottom shelf. Researching of straightening kinked square tubing provided little information. The legs are chrome plated. First thought is to heat the tubing and try to work the kink with physical persuasion, but that looks to be difficult with the mounting holes for the middle shelf being right in the mix. Also, will be the chrome plating be damaged in the process? I'm thinking most likely. Another thought is to cut the tubing where the kink is, straighten the two parts, and weld it back together. Regardless, the legs will likely need a different coating application since re-chroming is outside of the budget. Has anyone ever tried to fix this type of problem?
