Leaking water neutralizer drain

So my water neutralizer drain has this funny plastic fitting on it before it dumps into the main, along with the washing machine drain. There's a window in the fitting that I guess is there to watch the water coming out during the regen cycle.

Somewhere this fitting started leaking and water is running down the outside of the main, obviously making a mess. Cani just dump the hose into the main and secure it, or do I need that fitting for some reason that I can't figure out? If I need that fitting, what's it called?

I cant imagine them putting that crazy contraption on there if there wasnt a good reason for it. What brand is you water neutralizer ? Maybe call them and ask where to get a replacement ?

It's an airgap or anti-siphon fitting. It's there to prevent waste water from getting sucked into your domestic water if there happened to be a loss of water pressure while the drain valve in the neutralizer is open.

Sorry for this poor photo but it’s an air gap for a water softener discharging into a waste standpipe. I thought it was a clever piece. Glued and threaded. Not sure who makes it.

Thanks for the info. I wound up taking the cheap way out, trimmed down the fitting so the whole thing fits in the main and secured it a bit better. Unfortunately water was pooling up on the board behind one of the windows (I guess it was mist or splash from inside), so I I made a foil funnel to keep it off the wall and in the drain.20221014_134207.jpg
