The LiftMaster 2000 SDR 1/2 hp screw drive has had periodic problems opening on one of the garage bays. It stops about 2/3 of the way open. This happened mostly on cold Southern California mornings but lately weather is not a factor. If it is repeatedly open and closed the door will eventually open all the way. This is what I have done so far:
Inspected the railing and tracks and found large amounts of heavy grease. Wiped off the grease from the tracks and rail. Lubricated the rail with lithium grease.
Adjusted the open force to maximum as this is a heavy rod iron door.
Adjusted the springs to balance the garage door. I am able to open and close the garage door manually without issue.
In observing the travel of the gondola, I have notice that the rail and gondola vibrate more right before it stops.
I disconnected the door from the gondola and then activated the motor. The gondola travels the complete distance.
I called LiftMaster customer service and they suggested that due to the intermittent behavior it in may be a failing board.
I have not fully disassemble, cleaned and reinstalled the system yet.
Before I replace the opener with a new one and since this was installed by a previous owner, is there any thing else I should troubleshoot on the screw drive/railing or opener to insure it is not a problem I have over looked.
