Excuse my rough cad layout...never used the software before. :yikes:

The loft area is for storage both underneath and above, so I'm not concerned with lighting either areas. The garage door is installed with a 'low hang' kit and does not have enough clearance for any hanging fixtures, and I'm not really keen on installing recessed lights there as I most likely will have the door open when working and wouldn't want to block the entrance with a long term project anyway.

Both the ceiling and walls will be sheetrock painted semi-gloss white. Work wise who knows what I'll be doing, but I would like it to be bright. As of right now its empty, but I plan on putting in shelves and benches later, with dedicated bench lights as needed.

Appreciate all suggestions!

There are several fluorescent fixtures that can be surface mounted that should work for you. Although your sketch indicates the ceiling height at 13 feet, you may want to suspend the fixtures (possibly to a bottom of fixture elevation of 10 feet off the floor). It all depends on what you want to do, as there are many ways to install light fixtures in a shop.

Check out several of the post here and you will get some good ideas how others have done their lighting. IMO fluorescent fixtures are the way to go for your setup. If you want to take the time Lithonia has a website that offers a free download of lighting software. Check it out and look at the different options.
