Line set runs for 2 evaporator mini split

I have my mini split outside.

I was going to run line sets up the wall and through the attic near the soffits to the 2 heads. Run inside is about 10 feet for one and 25-30 feet for another.

So a buddy asked some guys at work (county inspectors) and they said dont run inside run line sets on the exterior wall and then jump inside when you have to.

Is this necessary? Proper? That much better if at all?

I know air handler in non conditioned space is a no no but line sets?

Let me know what is best I want to run this weekend.

Personally I kept all my minisplits on an exterior wall to avoid running line sets and the drain line inside any space.

With my setup it worked well. However, if I installed on an interior portion and there was no other choice, then I would run the line sets inside as needed.

Just be sure you have the drainage setup properly for each head.

Why do they recommend that? I'd say many of the mini splits I've seen have the linests run outside for some distance.

They are saying to run outside and not inside the attic of garage.

Line sets will go up from heat pump to the attic level from there one travels very littl distance to first evaporator. The second line set could run outside on wall and then go inside to 2nd evaporator or run inside basically at the floor of the (unconditioned) attic space to the evaporator.

Is there a big dofference?

Running linesets inside walls sometimes causes noise (vibration) issues.

Also make sure the insulation is intact, well sealed so condensation doesnt form and drip inside your walls or ceilings.

When we did my cape -- they run along the rafters under the insulation -- you still have to figure out the drain.

Both lines get insulation.

Nothing nice looking about the lines --

The longer the line set, the less efficient the system will be. Even though the line are insulated, you really do NOT want to run them through an attic unless you plan on doubling or tripling the insulation for the same reason.

Systems are rated for lengths, totals, mins and maxs.

I would be surprised if a long line set, within the systems design, causes much loss of efficiency.

Ideally you want them inside the building envelope -- too many are looped all over outside. The delta can be especially large in the winter

Capacity loss is negligible if the lines are sized properly for the distance and are insulated.

Thanks for the advice.

Runs are short and within the capacity of the compressor and the same as if the were run on the outside.

The copper is pro grade with the seamless highish density non porous insulation and I will be careful to not scratch or puncture it.

The line set will run literally in the overhang next to the soffit (except when it goes 12 feet to the interior of the garage) vent so the temp difference will be not a huge issue.

Also the possibility of damage from condensation will be greatly reduced.
