Lithi-Tek 4500 and Siloxa-Tek 8505?

Hi everyone! I’ve been reading various posts from this site but just joined recently. This is a great site with tons of info. Thanks to all who post!

I recently had a large metal building erected that I plan to use as a “shop” and I also plan to have some living quarters built in it. I plan to use it to keep my tractor, 5th wheel, dune buggy, etc. in and would like to put some finish on the concrete floor. I want to have a nice finish that repels oils, etc. but don’t want to make it so nice that I’m scared of my tractor implements touching/scratching the floor. I’ve checked with Legacy on various flooring options and they seem to have multiple nice products. After more research, I am considering having a densifier placed and sealer. I am considering Lithi-Tek 4500 Densifier and Siloxa-Tex 8505 Sealer by GhostShield. My enclosed building is 80’X120’X18’…..but only about 8000 sq ft of it will need treatment. I also have 3125 sq ft of concrete porch area covered by lean-to. I would like to finish the concrete to look like the matte or gloss finish that you find in large retail stores like Wal-mart or Lowes. The concrete has been power troweled. We also have multiple cut joints in the slab that I would like to honor but fill with some flexible sealer (maybe Sikaflex or the Legacy product that you use sand with).

So my questions are:
- Is there anyone out there who has used these combinations (or something similar) that can comment and hopefully attach pics?
- What would be best to place in joints? I want them to be able to still flex but I want something rigid.
- Will the concrete need prep prior to placing the densifier/sealer other than pressure washing?
- What is the process for polishing the floor? And does it constantly have to be re-polished to keep a nice sheen/finish?

I do want to make sure your expectations are set correctly though. The product does not add any shine and is not meant for a polish type application. Some customers will do a grind and polish using successive grinds at finer grits, but neither a densifier nor 8505 provide any shine.

For a nice shine you could consider something like a Polyurea -- but that can get expensive. Also Legacy Industrial (Scotty) sells a'HD40' which in the right circumstances can create a great sheen.

Thanks for the reply Justin. I have checked about Epoxy/Urethane and Polyurea. From what I see online though, I also like the polished look of concrete floors when densifiers have been used. Can't a polished look be achieved with just the densifier and sealer if it is somehow polished in? I don't necessarily need it as shiney as the high gloss Polyurea. I mainly want it sealed to repel oils/etc and have a more polished look. Are the Lithi-Tek 4500 and Siloxa-Tek 8505 good product to achieve this result?

There are two ways to get a polished look -

1. some kind of a film that has some gloss to it - paint, epoxy, poly, acrylic, etc.

2. actually polish the concrete by grinding with progressively finer grits (like a granite counter top). You start to get a sheen at about 800 grit.

you can also grind less and then add a polish or coating of some sort to bring the gloss up.

The first question is are you satisfied with the smoothness of the floor as it is? If so, you can just use one of the clear polishes like HD40 or a clear coating like the SPGX.

If you really want the smoothness of a polished floor, then you need to grind and densify (densifiers help it grind to a better polish and wear better) you would then protective sealer to protect from stains (since the polished concrete is still absorbent).

The shine will last but your maintenance and traffic determine exactly how long.
Oil resistance is in direct connection with the beginning smoothness of your concrete and the effectiveness of the application process. Like most treatments, this is a permeable product (it breathes) and therefore oil left long enough can make a mark although it will be greatly minimized.

We have heard great things from customers who have applied a layer of our cherry wax over this product as far as luster and protection.
