If I was in your shoes and piecing out a kit was not an option I would go SK. They are not cheap, and honestly probably not the best deal, but it would be the best option for one big kit. Best bang for the buck would require not getting such a big kit.

What about this: Williams WSC-960 Mega Set Tools Only

In the price range....hard to see what is included though.

Would be a solid start.

With a $10K budget I'd buy piece by piece, or small sets. You could have a lot of fun with that. It would be time consuming though. Of course based on your COVID-19 situation, you may have time to spare. Also might be a good time to just park $10K in a safe deposit box. Or buy gold. Or beans and rice.

I've bought a lot of tools the last 18 months. I kind of jumped in without too much forethought. Luckily I didn't make too many mistakes, but I made a few. But I had fun and got some nice stuff.

I bought USA, German, Japanese and Taiwan made tools.

If I had it to do over I would do more research and make me a list of items to buy, and prioritize that list. I'd also think about what I really need vs what I want. It's easy to get caught up in the cool tool of the day and buy it when you don't really need it.

I did buy several battery operated tools, which I had never owned before. That was money well spent. Don't get hung up on the just the basic hard/hand tools.

I filled up a 44" Craftsman stack. In reality I could get away with a 26" 4 drawer chest for what I do.

I like that Cman set Bill posted in 29. It doesn't have the master big sizes in socket and wrench but the selection is huge, would give a guy a chance to get started and collecting a little at a time takes a long time to get the wrench variety that has. 999$,,, be a different matter if they were asking 9999$ but much cheaper than it is and they would have to pay you to carry that to the car. How many would invest in a tappet wrench set anymore or hundreds of dollars to do it but at a dollar or 2 a piece they are worth tying up a little box space for. I use one once in a while. Same for stubs, same for the offsets.
I was looking for a pic of the dbe, I see one on pic 3 that I use a lot, actually have 2 sets of them. Used one today on a pump adjustment. 15 degree angle I think maybe but they are something I reach for quite often. Might be able to score them flea, they are really super tuff.

I hear you. I have three sets working on a fourth. One at work, one in the shed, one in the garage, and a small set in the machine shop and wood shop.
Ditto. I’ve got shop, barn, garage, garden shed (mowers), and a basement electrical shop. Big setup in shop, handfuls of tools in the others. Hate walking between buildings for tools!
