Howdy all. A friend is looking for a Craftsman long handled 1/2" drive ratchet. I'm pretty sure it's the v-series ratchet. It's just like the one in the following picture (5th from left, 10th from right) except it has the longer handle. Anybody have one they'd be willing to part with?

Good luck, those ratchets have recently gone thru the roof on fleabay. One went for @ $115 or so I believe, and another in a group of ratchets, bars, and extensions topped that - there was nothing exceptional about the other stuff, just that ratchet.

PowderKeg, have any item numbers? My understanding on these long ones, is they did vary some, as they used the same blank and capped the oil fill hole in later models.

The one pictured in the drawer above does have the oil hole but IIRC, his doesn't. I'll look again tonight at work but I don't think mine has a number on it. The only numbers I recall on the one above is a pat. 1967. He says he found his while picking some parts off of a car in a junk yard, in the trunk of the junked car?

Why get hung up on one brand when there are many great ones to choose from, some cost more others less, but as I recall I think all the following offered something in a 1/2" long, and any one would do just fine if you did not own one! Snap-on, Mac, SK, Armstrong, Proto, and likely several I have forgotten!

Unless your friend just has to have that particular Craftsman?
I just picked up a NEW 1/2" drive, 15" Proto 5450 Industrial Finish ratchet off flea-bay, for $28 delivered.

I'm fairly sure those ratchets pre-date numbers, they either have a "V" or "VV" on the handle. My father had one that finally crapped out - many years ago I took it to Sears to try and get a rebuild kit for it, but no luck. They swapped it out for a rebuilt RHFTQR flex head ratchet - a far superior ratchet, which I knew 'cause I already had one myself.

Sears had a 15" 1/2" drive. Without looking at old catalogs I do not remember when it went away.

I have a 16" 1/2" drive Craftsman flex head. I use it like a breaker bar for wheel bolts. The Craftsman breaker bars are 15" and 18". The flex head is just like a 15" breaker bar but with a flex head on it.

If you cannot find what your friend wants and he wants to stick with Craftsman he might consider the flex head.

What is the part number and length of the one you're looking for?

I'm not sure there's a part number on it? I'll ask when I talk to him next. He has the flex-head Craftsman, the long handled Snap-On as well as a several others. He just likes the old Craftsman and was hoping to aquire another. I told him I'd post an ad here with all the ratchet/tool gururs to see if somebody had one or knew where to find one. His is the only one I've ever seen. I've known him for many years and highly doubt he wants another bad enough to spend $115.00 bucks. Just thought I'd ask and I thank you all that have replied.

Sorry, EBAY auction numbers. I have never seen one for sale myself on it. Last year I came across one at a swap and shop for $15, and liked the way it felt, and it works fine. Just hearing the price you mentioned, makes me wonder if it would fund more useful purchases.

They were a few or so weeks ago - I had them bookmarked to watch for chits 'n giggles, but deleted them once they sold. I believe I stumbled on them during a regular search for ratchets in antiques and stuff. Otherwise, Craftsman ratchets are a pain to search for, since there are so many floating in the bay.

Powderkeg, I have a 15" 1/2" drive ratchet that I'd be willing to part with. The # on it is 44976 (no V's) , it has the oil hole and the socket release button on the back of the head. It ships from Galesburg, IL. 61401
Drop me an e-mail at [email protected] and we can discuss it.
Thanks

Actually, it's ProGun3400 that's looking for one, hopefully he'll email you about it.
