I'm an electrical newb, but I have the town inspector a few doors down who is actually a real nice guy and would help me with mods, but I need some suggestions first.
Above my garage door at 15 feet I have my HPS light, which is great, but above that at 20 feet I have a 10 year old what I presume to be an Alarm box, inside some grated metal is a horn, and below the horn sticking out of the metal is some type of small strobe light.
My original plan was to rip this box out and put in a nice motion detector light, that way I have both the HPS when I have guests or working outside, and when that is off late at night the motion sensor for anything that might come down the driveway.
But..this alarm box thingy is wired with a thin-grey jacketed 22awg wire, says CL -2 or CL -22 or something on it, anyways it's not the fat white jacketed romex I'm used to seeing everywhere. Question: Is there anything I can hook up to this wire? motion sensor? low voltage something light? that will give me any kind of automatic light? or am I best suited to just rip the junk out of there and run romex and do a really real motion light?
