Mailboxes for tool storage?

Might be a pain trying to get stuff out because the shelf openings are so thin, yet deep. I like the idea of reusing and recycling, but I think I'd pass.

while not a particularly dense shortage solution, using something like that for, say, storing extension cords (one rolled up per box), or sand paper by type or grit, or flat trays (cheap aluminum foil baking pans?) of parts seems like a good use. . . . . . .

Hard to tell from photo--are all shelves adjustable or just the ones on the bottom? If they adjust, you can remove some and create larger spaces. Otherwise, I hope you have LOTS of sandpaper to store.

I would see if small parts storage containers would fit in there, like the popular HF or Stanley ones. Might have to go in sideways. If they didn't, I'm sure you could find the cheaper clear organizers that would fit in there.

Other than that, the only thing I could thing of would be a plastic or metal tray that slides into each slot and lay tools or parts manuals on those.

Edit: On second thought, they might even be kind of neat as a file organizer in a basement or office, as storage for home appliance manuals, bills, receipts, tax papers, etc.

Gut the insides out, put a nice door on and one or two shelves in.
