I bought a used matco 4s toolbox last week. I had problems with one of the drawers. The slides didn't work that smooth, and one of the ball bearings fell out. So I called matco for a replacement. When I asked how much they said it was under warranty. They never asked if I was the original owner. I didn't expect that. Shows me that matco has good customer service and warranty coverage. Makes me even more glad I sold the snap on for the matco. Snap on didn't want to warranty slides on a older box I had a couple yrs ago. They said I wasn't the original owner so they couldn't.

Did you buy the box from a dealer or random craigslist find.

I ask because if they warranty the part, they might want the serial number off the box, and say that box wasn't paid off, then you don't legally own it, and now you've opened up a can of worms.

I just did the same thing on my Matco 4s that I got off Cl a couple weeks ago. Warrantied without question. I had them send the slides to work and the box is at home. That way if there was an issue with debt, they don't know where the actual box is...

I used to hear nightmare repo stories from my old so guy.

Had the same experience with Mac, have a MB 1700...The slides are fine but most of the plastic detent pieces are gone. I called Mac fully prepared to buy the detents, but was told they're not available separately so they sent all new slides for free. Was never asked if I was the original purchaser

But how do you know? Age doesn't mean anything. Someone in 2009 could have stoped paying Matco when they got fired. They take the box home before it's repoed and it disapeares of the grid. Be wary sir.

I've heard the same stuff. I always call to check before I buy. Besides I've talked to ppl in the know and they would have to go after the person who took the loan out. No different if you financed a john deere tractor and sold it, but defaulted on the loan. They go after u, not the person that bought it from the original owner. There's no titles on boxes. If u take the sticker off, theres no way to prove who the original owner was.

I got some new slides for my MB7515, and the lady on the phone was acting like a ******* detective on a homicide.

21 questions why the slides were no good? "Where's the box been at? In your garage? In a truck?" "Did you abuse them?" Yea, lady, I often hit my slides with a sledgehammer and then pour turkey gravy in them! NO! They're just falling apart and not working...."Well, wear and tear is not covered." Ok, wear and tear is pretty much anything after it's used. So, warranty? Yes or No? "I'll give you 4 slides because they are expensive. They cost $24 each." Isn't that why these boxes cost a premium in the first place?
