Kind of like the old movie where the machines turn against the humans, our kitchen went on a tear while we were away. Our neighbor was watching our dog, so the house wasn't empty the whole time, but-
The range was flashing an error message. It's done this before; it's supposed to mean that a button is stuck down. The first time it did it, I ordered a new touchpad. I put it back together while waiting for the part so we could use the cooktop, and low and behold, the problem went away. It turns out that there's a puny little ribbon cable that needs to be cleaned once in a while. Years later, the touchpad actually failed, and I had the part sitting on the shelf. This last time, I just cleaned the ribbon cable and it fixed the problem.
The other problem is still a mystery. Our neighbor noticed that the mat in front of the main sink was wet. She hung it outside to dry. We cleared all of the stuff out from under the sink to find the leak. No leak found. Hmmm... Perhaps the adjacent dishwasher was leaking. There's a solid plywood panel between the DW and undersink area, so the only way it could cause the problem is if it leaked along the drain line or the fill line. I read about DW leaks, but they all sounded like they would happen under the DW. In this case, the water was under the sink, not the DW. We ran it to see if a leak traced along the drain or fill lines. Nope. So- we have no idea where the water came from. It was a significant amount- maybe a quart based on how soaked the two mats were, plus under the liner under the sink. The area under the sink is pretty well sealed. There's really no place for water to come from other than the sink connections themselves. And- there was no one using the sink. Hmmm....
