First, thanks for allowing me to join. I recently purchased a used Maxum EX840100AJ compressor with a Emerson motor T63XWBSS1486. Everything says the motor is wired for 220VAC. When I wired as I believe it should be, everything starts as expected but the motor starts smoking like it is on fire (more on the wiring in a minute). I am wondering if the motor could have oil in it? The guy that brought it over had it on its side, laying down. I got it unloaded and let it set a day or two before doing anything. I turned over by hand a few times to make sure oil didn’t get into the cylinder and lock it up. I refilled the compressor with Royal Purple synthetic compressor oil. I don’t let it run long, smoke starts right away, it does not trip the breaker or the internal motor reset. I checked the motor with a VOM, across the Terminals #1 & #4 on the motor I have 0.9 ohms, terminal #1 or #4 to ground is infinity. Voltage is line #1 120 vac and line #2 122 vac, line #1 to line #2 measures 221 vac. The compressor & motor are wired with black & white as lines from pressure switch to motor with green for ground and no neutral. I am attaching a very basic wiring diagram and pictures of the wiring. I am curious to my wiring is correct or incorrect and everyone’s thoughts on the motor. Thanks

Unfortunately I didn’t pay attention to that. My breaker box is across my shop from where I had the compressor. I definitely will fire it off again in the morning and pay attention. But if I remember correctly, kind of bothish…I add update in the morning.
