A few days ago I saw in a shop a firing pin hole (Metabo SBE 561) at an affordable price about 70 Dollars ........ but it was not made in germany, it was manufactured in China.
worth acquiring a tool metabo made in china?
or is trash like everything that is manufactured in China

Its an entry level hammer drill and not intended for heavy daily abuse. That said metabo has good quality control and it should last years for the average user. I guess I am saying that at 70 to 100 dollars you get a good machine just don't expect pro level tools that will stand up to full working weeks of abuse.

You can get similar quality Makita or dewalt hammer drills at that price range.

What's nice is they are pretty small and light and will do most of the home owner / small masonry drilling jobs quickly.

Mine doesn't see much use but always glad I have it when I need it.

That's not a hammer drill, it'a cheapo impact drill. All these cheapo items are now manufactures in China, no matter the manufacturer.

Looks like a cheap China made hammer drill to me...

I'd say it's probably an ok drill for occasional use. You should buy it and tell us if it's a piece if ****, or not...! :lol_hitti

Getting harder and harder to find quality made tools, sad indeed...

Eh? They sell many other models that are for more professional use, that are just as easy to "find", at the same distributors. You probably won't like the price though, as most of these complaints go.

Milwaukee makes all of their tools in China. I don't think they are trash. I'm writing this as I'm using one of their M18 Fuel impacts while working on my car. Doesn't seem like junk to me.

And we call the SDS tools ROTARY HAMMERS to differentiate them from hammer drills which actually sort of **** as all they will drill a hole in is concrete block and bricks. These are useless in concrete.

The Germans are starting to sell out too. Never thought I'd see it.

It's all about staying in business. The number of people that buy a product based on price greatly outnumber those that look for quality. If a company wants to compete, they have to offer something at the bottom-of-the-barrel price to maintain market share. :(

Instead of the "global economy" bringing the third world up to first world living standards, it's dragging the rest of the world down to theirs. Think about how many "support" phone lines connect you to somewhere far outside the US these days.

As one article I read years ago stated: "Americans want great working conditions, good pay, clean air, clean water, etc. However, they aren't willing to pay the price of items that are made in such an environment". All that stuff adds cost...

I get where your coming from but I have to agree with the poster above.

Look at BMW, and Mercedes. Both brands offering low priced models to diversify there brand.

You just hope that this isn't a downward cycle that leads to a lack of quality in the high line. Metabo has always been a contractor tool and I believe it will continue to be.

OP
,

What is your intended use? Personally I would buy a cordless with impact drilling capabilities.

Nonsense. They aren't "selling out" anything. They look at "the idiocracy o'er yonder", and our buying habits, and smartly enter that game with their name stuck on the items. Look at the flag waving Milwaukee fanboys around here. They're as Chinese as Chinese checkers.
Like the Milwaukee, Metabo, Makita, DeWalt and others they aren't going to ruin their names completely by allowing quality to suffer that much but the "get what you pay for" rule applies no matter who puts the sticker on it. When your target market has a Harbor Freight and Walmart(parking lots full) on every corner it leaves no choice to companies wanting to stay afloat and move forward.
Sure it *****. It is what it is. WE(the majority of us) gave them no other options.
My advice ? Buy the German version to keep them focused on their higher quality development program. It's up to us.We demand. They supply.

Difference: a hammer drill uses SDS plus/max mounts and provides impact force along the length of the drill bit, an impact drill uses the standard jacobs chuck and provides tangential impact to the drill bit.

Hammer drills use standard chucks, too. It's a different mechanism than the rotary hammers, but still applies the force longitudinally.

here's a photo of a hammer drill with a normal chuck that WILL drill concrete, 50mm according to the sticker on the drill, this is what people used before SDS came along, agreed SDS is a better action, if you look close even the shanks are threaded for extending them ;)

this kind of drill is perfect for drilling ceramic tiles, it' doesn't punch that hard and will not brake the tile

If you don´t like/want chinese drills and if you are able to shell out 300-400 bucks you could buy this fine german made Fein drill...:

or take a closer look at the Duss drills. Finest quality from the black forest/Germany:

No Monte, they don't want to spend money for quality when they can simply ***** about the Chinese and how they're screwing over the world with their **** and complain. The market provides what American's are willing to pay for. When it gives them what they want they ***** about it. As a German you probably have a hard time understanding this.

If I needed one I would buy the Fein. Something of quality that'll last a lifetime and provide years of good service. When I was looking for a multitool I bought the Fein Multimaster 5 years ago and still works great - regrouting 2 showers and repairing some rotted exterior trim.
