Mezzanine design help

Hello first time posting here . can any one with construction experience tell me if this will work .
the building is a 30ftx50ft and I plan to build a mezzanine in the back in the shape of a U. it will mainly be used as extra storage space in a automotive shop type setting ,I don't plan to have stacks of engines or anything like that up there but would be storage for general parts storage .Id like to use lumber I can get from the box stores

lol rather over build, also I didnt mention the picture is not proportionate. the joists will be 16" centers with joist hangers

I would take into account how you are building the shop/garage itself.


Are you building a post frame ? Can you use a larger post and notch it for the ledgers ?

The biggest mistakes that people make when building shop/garage mezzanines are :

• Inadequate number/size of posts/vertical supports.
• Post/vertical supports not placed UNDER the beams. I would never trust beams attached to wall studs WITHOUT additional support directly under the beam.
• Joist spaced too far apart. (Yours appear to be 16" O.C., which is good.)
