I am fixing up a big building I have. It will be a shop and then I plan to put roughly a 22' x 24' x 10' party/Bar room inside of it. Since it will kind of be inside my shop, it will only have one outside facing wall. Can I effectively heat and cool a room this size with a mini split or would I need a secondary heating source too? Also what size of unit should I look at?

I would say a mini split would work ok. As long as you don’t use it all the time, then it would not be very efficient.

I heat a 24x36 detached garage with 10' ceiling stickbuild with a 1.5K hyperheat minisplit. At 25F it just loafs. Only operating for a few weeks now so the real proof comes as winter progresses and ground cools off and themps drop but I expect the Comfort level is similar to house. At 25F the hyper heat probably is not much different from a standard unit but at zero and below the hyper kicks ****. I have two hyper heats in my house for 3rd winter now so I have a good idea of what to expect in my garage. The garage is insulated identically to my house.
The temptation is to oversize these things and then they do not work very well because they have to turn on and off rather than modulate.
I have r38 in ceiling and r15 walls and very little air leakage and that is the key.
It is pretty easy to do the sizing just by placing enough electric heat to keep it warm. I was being encouraged by many to install a 24K unit but I put 9K propane heater for a few days and it warmed the building up and held 65F over night on a 25F morning so I downsized to 1.5K
Smaller is better until it is too small.

Are you going with a mini split due to cost and like others said just using it once while? Not knowing where your at,if in Tx such as myself then cooling is a big deal but if your in Canada then I guess heating is a big deal. Where I'm at a rule of thumb is 600 sq ft per ton which is base on 8' ceilings.
