Modine heater in garage question...

I have a Modine heater in the garage hooked up to a thermostat. The thermostat is now set on Auto and the lowest temperature setting is 41 degrees. Question is, if i turn the thermostat to off will the pilot go out? As i do not want to keep the garage at 41 degrees all the time, but i don't want to light the pilot all the time either. Just trying to save some money on propane...Thanks for any help!

The pilot will stay lit unless you turn the gas valve to "off" position.

I have a modine hotdawg i bought new in 2008. It has no pilot light.
