Modine hotdawg vs. Mr. heater maxx?

Hi guys, brand new here. Was wondering what the main differences are between these two heaters (hotdawg 45,000)--(mr.heater maxx45,000). Got a 20x22 garage in the process of (super) insulating it. There is a decent price difference so I was just wondering if there is really a difference between the two. Thanks fellas.

I know Modine offers sealed combustion units, don't think Mr. Heater does. You get what you pay for IMHO.

I mean is there really a difference in quality or performance? There is a $140 difference between the two. The Mr. heater being priced less.

I followed and researched a lot of threads related to these type of heaters before I bought mine. From everything I could tell, there is very little, if any true functional difference between the two. I sure couldn't tell any difference when I looked at them in the stores. If I recall, there were even a few posts indicating that they use some of the same components. In the end I went with a Hot Dawg simply because I got a great buy on a dinged up one from here:www.gas-space-heater.com/modine-hot-dawg.html
They were very helpful, you might even give them a call and see if they have any scratch and dents avail. or give you more insight on differences.

On this same topic, I'm wondering how much the external combustion air is needed...? I'm planning on putting one of these in my new 30x52, which is going to be a general purpose garage. I'm thinking the external comubsion air would be nice for efficiency, and because this thing "should" be sealed up rather well.

Look through this Forum and make your decision on what others have had to say about each unit and any problems they've had with either a vendor/shipping or the unit itself and make your decision. I chose the Modine Hot Dawg for a few dollars more from H-MAC Systems, INC after talking to their Sales and Tech Support people. I received my 45K BTU Hot Dawg with no problems, the instructions are clearly written, easy to understand and cover all aspects of the installation. I'm happy with the decision I made.

I've had my 75K Mr. Heater for 4 years. I've never had a problem with it or the shipping when I bought it. I highly recommend them and would buy another in a heartbeat.

Wow someone dug up my old thread. Well I ended up going with the Modine Hotdawg 45k. I have it hooked up to a #100 propane tank. This heater kicks ***! I just set the thermostat to whatever I want and it does the rest. I have found that 70 degrees F is too hot at most times. LOL! I just do 65ish and its very comfortable.

I have a 21'x28' garage with 10' ceilings. I just had an ADP Cayenne 45k BTU heater put in on Thursday and it works great. It was $475 from the local supply house and looks nearly identical to me to the Modine and Mr. Heater, so I wouldn't doubt if they are made with the same parts, if not in the same factory and private labeled.

I got a Honeywell Warehouse Tstat that goes down to 40 degrees which is nice when I'm not using it, but can make sure it doesn't freeze.

That's way too big a furnace for that small area! Did you size that or someone else? I have a 28x21 and was sized for a 45k based on keeping the temp at 50-60. I was informed if I wanted to keep it 75 all the time in the winter then the the 60k was borderline.

how long does a #100 tank last you?

Its been at 50 degrees for a month and the tank is still full. It gets in the low 20's and 30's here at night. And the mid to upper 40's during the day. I havent went through a whole tank yet so i'll let you know.

Both are Loud and have high warranty claims related to the control boards.

Buy a reznor. The fan is quiet and the heater is more efficient 83% and here we get a rebate from centerpoint energy gas company.

The reznor also has the ability to use outside air for combustion if you have a woodshop.

My dad was in the HVAC buisness and they had that unit as overstock he didnt want it in his garage so it ended up in my garage at home, can't complain for a free unit

I'm with you detective. I have the same unit, and the burners are on the left, and the name is on the right (correct side up). It came with the brackets mounted on the "top" already in the box so I am presuming he swapped them maybe to position it better for the venting or gas pipe?

I have the seperated combustion unit in my garage. Its not just a matter of efficiency, its more a matter of a sealed chamber if youre using it in a dusty area or if you spray paint in your shop. The sealed unit draws the air from outside instead of the overspray filled air in the shop. And the only problem Ive had is the control board. I had no idea theres been a problem with them but Modine sent me a replacement board free since the heater was less than 2 years old. It turned out that the original board had a cold solder joint on one of the pieces. The HVAC guy that installed the heater for me found the problem, resoldered the piece, and its worked fine since. I still called Modine and they sent a replacement and told me to keep it as a spare.

No it could be mounted with vents on left or right side. Sticker was already on
since then I have peeled label off.
