I had too many small toolboxes and toolbags floatin around my pickup. I needed something that would take some abuse, as this box will eventually end up in the rockcrawler when it's done. For now, it will live in the Titan, and when it goes to the rockcrawler, I will buy another one for the Titan.

I talked to shannon from strictlytoolboxes.com and decide to get the ME300R. http://www.strictlytoolboxes.com/portable-toolbox/montezuma-portable-tool-boxes-professional-portable-tool-box-medium-30-x-15.html

We had the older version beating around our farm trucks for 15 years, and in all that time, the only damage it suffered was the prong that held the largest wrenches broke (had three wrenches around 1 1/4" on it, IIRC). That sold me on the strength of these boxes.

Sorry about the picture quality, the kitties decided to play soccer with the camera.

The box comes packaged to survive anything short of a nuclear disaster:

My two complaints are:
1. The sticker doesn't come off it easy (pretty small gripe).

2. The old style had a latch that would catch when you lifted the socket tray up, so you could have both hands to dig in the bottom. I miss that. Again, not a big deal to wedge something in there to hold it up.

Things I like:

1. The cubbyholes on the right are open on top at the back, so if you drop a wrench while hanging it up (which I already did), it falls through into the cubbyhole, and is easy to get, rather than being wedged on top of that steep angle.

2. The lid of the box goes up against the socket/wrench prongs, so things can't fall off in transport.

3. It comes with the good rubber liners for the compartments.

4. The gas cylinder is nice for keeping the lid up, and not having to flip the lid over center.

The biggest problem is that I need more tools to put in it.:lol_hitti

That is a nice looking box.... I really like my la400r as well. I think they are some of the most useful boxes made as well. I like how I can easily find most of the stuff I need really quickly. As for my 400, it is a little bigger and heavy empty let alone with tools in it. Mine is 87, for the 30x19 and his is 30x15 at 64 pounds empty. Also made in the USA. Go to the site below and they are under portable boxes.

and drive around all day is it going to be a complete mess when i need to get something out of it? the boxes i've got right now don't store easily in a roll over safe manner and i'm looking at other options before i build-in tie downs and brackets for them.

I have a 4 year old version of the same box. Its been thrown all over and the odd small wrench or small socket that I have doubled up on the pegs might fall off. Otherwise it might not look good when you open it but the stuff will be where you put it.

back in the old days the guys that make them used to travel to farm shows. they had a stand made with a box mounted to it. they would roll out it completely upside down 2 or 3 times and then open the lid. the sockets and wrenches that are on pegs stay put. things in the holes may may come loose but about 95+ % of things stayed in place. things laying loose in the bottom will move of course but they usually fall back in the same spot they came from or pile up in the corner but usually that is large things like pipe wrenches, bars, hammers and the like. i have 4 boxe in three differant version-sizes. if you roll your rig 2 or 3 times the least of your concerns will be a few tools out of place. if you keep the wheels ointed down i would guess that you will never find a thing very far out of place . i have one that has probably logged 10,000+ hours on farm equipment with not a crack or break anywere. they are tough
