This is not my garage. It is an aquaintance of mine. I did have the pleasure of taking the pictures. I hope he doesn't mind me showing off his garage.

Nice garage. The rides to fill it aren't bad either.

That's at least a 7 car garage (double depth?). How are there only two pics?

:needpics:

It should actually say without more pics. We need more details.

You should pay the guy something for using those pictures. Looks like he could use the cash.

7 figures...no way!!!!

Nice and clean...but where do they work on the cars? ;)

Not a huge fan of so many doors, but ni like the High bay doors, we're incorporating one of those into our project.

Surprised he went with standard garage doors on that thing.

What is the floor made of? I see sqaured lines, is it like a composite tile?

More pics please :)

I think you need to introduce him to this site and us!!

PS: Toys are for playing with not dieing with. He who dies with the most broken toys had the most fun and stoped others from playing with his toys after he was gone!! Take’m out and play with them!!

Well yes and no...I'm sure the Taxes are cheaper (My sis and bro -in-law live in N.J. still) and tell me how bad the taxes are....

7 years ago I helped a buddy pick a lot in Lake Havasu, I think it was $12,500 then he had a house built on it for about $125,000 was a $85,000 house but he added some upgrades...aka bigger garage and such..he tells me now a dayz the place is worth over 300k :pimpflash ..Soooooo with that being said BMW you tell us ........Just remember A/C cost in Az...but then again it's a dry heat not that sloppy sticky stuff you use to......:lol_hitti

Oh and by the way this is just his Vacation home.....he rents it to some "Snowbirds" for the winter...Oct-April....then all spring and summer it's his.......

nice "garage", nicer cars..

I guess i'm alot more interested in "shops" (a place with tools and machinery where work actually gets done) than i am "garages". i guess i'm just not that interested in giant super sanitary storage areas...

again i definitely dig the cars.. please excuse me if i'm wrong but from the looks of it this guy buys and doesn't build.. at least he has good taste.

Yea, there are HUGE differences in building costs and taxes/etc.

$300k...you could not even get 1/8th acre in northern NJ, and thats with NO house on it.

For example, if you compare what $1mil gets you in NC to what it gets you in NNJ: NC you'll get severa acres with a 3-4000sqrft house. In NNJ $1mil will get you 1/2 acre with a 2k sqrft house, and thats with taxes that are prob 2-3x more than the NC property.

Got to pay to play :)

Don't remind me... my taxes are close to $10k now...for what? To pay for teachers my kids don't even have yet.

I've always liked AZ. Maybe it's in my future.

Tools and Toys are interchangeable terms in our household. When I come home from the tools store its “what toy did you get this time” (in the nicest way). When consulting about going to the tool store the response is “you need it, you get it” (Yep I’m one happy bloke).:) :) :)

I dream about what $1mil would get me, but it's only a dream.

My 1/2 acre with improvements (power and a well) is appraised at $16,500.

Add the manufactured (yes...it's a mobile) home, and the total comes out to about $70K. My taxes are cheap, but I am getting worried, because similar properties around me have suddenly started selling for $200-$300K.

If my taxes increase by 300%, I will be in a world of hurt. :(

Taxes where I live are $1300+/- for a 3k' house & 3 acre lot. New housing is selling for $105-110 per ft although some high end stuff is going for up to $150'. I went to Ca last summer and was amazed at some of the property prices. I remember one little house up around Napa (I think) described as a "nice fixer-uppper"-$800000! I don't see how folks afford real estate out there. Nissan is moving thier corporate offices to Nashville. Some of those folks are selling their property is Ca. and have enough $ to buy 2 or 3 houses in Tn.

My first house (in Ca) was 170k (brand new) in 95'.....I sold it in 99' for 210k.....now it will pull 560k-575k...guess I should have held onto it a bit longer :(

That sounds about right. I won't go into details, but the value of our house has gone up over 400% in the last 10 years or so. Good luck trying to get a house around here now. $1M might buy you a run-down victorian on a 60'x120' lot. Within 30 miles there are a half-dozen places where that wouldn't touch the cheapest house in the area. :shocking:

Unfortunately that also translates into higher property taxes, and UTTERLY RIDICULOUS contractor rates. My lowest estimate to stick-build my garage with no electrical and no plumbing was $64K. :wtf:

BUT... I love it in California too much to want to leave. Despite having a populous that would vote in someone like "The Governator". I blame it all on the people in and around L.A.

I've lived here all my life, and without getting too political, I think The Governator was voted in because the "other guy" would have us all speaking a different language by now. The way I see it, California is divided into 3 regions. There is Southern California, which ranges from San Diego to about Fresno or so. There is Northern California, which includes areas north of Fresno to the Oregon border.

Then there is the Bay Area, which should probably be a different state altogether. People there don't act like "normal" Californians....:lol_hitti

I grew up in Simi Valley in SoCal, and my folks are still in the house they bought there in '68 for $28K. They could sell it tomorrow for $1Mil. It's been paid off for about ten years. No seconds, no Re-Fi's.

I keep telling them to cash out, go someplace else, and live like kings. They won't move because they like it there. Property values are increasing all over the state. I have been threatening to leave for about 20 years now, but I keep waiting for everyone else to do it first...;)

Sandtrap, that is an awesome setup; tell your friend I said so. Is he, by some chance, a SoCal/Bay Area "transplant"? Lots of folks made out really good from just living in those areas at the right time, as well as some making astute investments and having the right sort of employment. I am aquainted with a few folks in Havasu City, through old relationships and the internet; maybe I need to come and visit - this feller might be one of them.

Whoo-weee!! Been there, done that! We bought a regular ol' tract house in Mission Viejo - that's in "The OC", Orange County, SoCal, for them what's not familiar - in 1971 for 28K, and sold it in '95 for 170K - thought we made out pretty good. Neighbors across the street, same basic house, ten years later, sold for 800K; their mortgage was paid off, too. They moved to Oregon, bought in a "modular" development for seniors for less than 100K, invested the rest, and are living real comfy. We ain't doin' real bad, but we did get whacked pretty hard, back in the late '90s-early '00s on our investments, so we have to "light foot it" some; I have even thought about trying to get back into the workforce part time, just to ease the strain a bit.

California???

I spent two weeks in California visiting my Daughter that just started working for Intel in Santa Clara. I came away with a newfound revelation of how much I truly Love Ohio!

Between the inflated prices and 24-hour a day traffic jams would prevent me from moving west. My Uncle paid over $800,000.00 for a small bungalow in Oakland with no garage or lot, that would equate to a $40,000.00 home in most inner cities. I paid as high as $3.69 a gallon for gas when it’s $1.99 at home. It easily took me 3 hours to travel the same distance here in 30 minutes.

Interesting how the "surface observations" work both ways.

I am a California Native. The recent real estate boom came as a somewhat welcome surprise.

If we are going to generalize based on such observations as "24-hour a day traffic jams" and "inflated prices", I can add a few obsaervations of my own.

While spending time visiting relatives in the midwest (why do they call it that? It's nowhere near the west), I noticed some issues that caught my attention...

Does nobody there know how to cook? It seemed that the preferred dinner meal would be something from a takeout 99% of the time. The most-requested venue wuold be Whitecastle. We don't have them here, and with good reason...the food is terrible, they would never survive.

Second observation....everyone seemed to be overly concerned with their neighbors' activities. To the point of distraction..."look at what the so-and so's are doing... can you believe that"?....

To be that nosy around here would generate a restraining order at least.

Out in the real west, we take care of ourselves, and take care of our neighbors, when requested. We know how to cook, on a stove or an open fire, too. Our neighbors' activities are of no significance most of the time.

If you are going to take issue with your "snapshot" of the CA lifestyle, you might think about how your Ohio standards appear to everyone else.

I suppose you would like to pay fireman by the fire and policeman by the crime too.

Actually our firemen are volunteers and we don't have any policemen so I don't pay for either.

Same here. Actually, the county sheriff's dept will respond, but it could take days....

I pay a supplemental assessment for "local parks" (of which there are none, unless you consider 18 miles away to be local), and for "animal control", which will only respond out here if it is a rabies case.

I suppose I should count my blessings, though, as we don't have traffic jams or inflated prices, either. These things are the norm for California, as has been posted. I might just grab my surfboard and move to Ohio, dude....

LOL
