My Detached 2-car Refurb

Hello all, found this forum recently and loving all the ideas floating around. It got me thinkin about how disorganized my garage really is, so I decided to rip into it and begin cleaning it up. Heres the progress so far...

The plan right now is to focus on the walls first. I'm going to remove the cabinets and start with a 4x8 sheet of plywood (8 Long, 4 high) along the back wall, starting from the right corner. I have 2 sheets left over from previous projects, 1/2" or 3/4". I feel like the 3/4" would be overkill ... but the 1/2" is pretty thin. Wish I had a sheet of 5/8". Which would you choose?

Are you going to insulate or add outlets ? Now is the time. I would go with 5/8's osb and paint it.

If you are using what you already have, I would use the 1/2" as it will be rigid enough by the time you get it on the studs. Just don't forget to insulate behind it first. And as Sids04 stated, add some outlets.

I am also doing a refurb on my garage and shop. I have lived here for about 35 years so you can imagine the "stuff" that needs to be removed and something done with. For example, my daughter is now 39 years old and we still had her baby bed in the top of the garage!! It got worse from there. Most of my stationary power tools are needing refurbish and remounting and one things leads to another. Seems no end in sight. I am making the trash man think ugly thoughts about me twice a week. Recently, the cold weather has stopped some of my planned work as I have to constantly move stuff around here and there and I have also been a little ill with the flu like stuff. My current project is looking at "all" of the GJ website. Keep up your good work.

Ran down to the 'Depot today, picked up some 5/8" plywood (They didn't have 5/8 OSB), some outlets, switches, boxes, breakers, and insulation. Ready to get to work tomorrow! =]

Finally got some more work done. Removed everything from the wall above the workbench, started insulating. After that will go plastic sheet for a vapor barrier and 5/8" plywood. Wired in 4 outlets and a switch to turn on my air compressor in the shed. Putting the air compressor outside the garage significantly reduces noise pollution.

Also started cleaning up and rewiring everything as well. The original builder/owner of the house was supposedly an electrician. God I feel bad for anyone this guy worked for. I have no formal training in wiring, and can do it a thousand times better. It really is amazing some of the stuff they did in this garage and the house.

Due to a long, disgusting winter, I'm back to finish the bench/wall in my garage. Here's how it looks as of today:

Got insulation installed, vapor barrier, then 5/8" plywood. Installed outlets along the bench, and put the cabinets back up in a different configuration. The long cabinet will end up on another wall shortly.

As you can see, I've started organizing and hanging tools on the wall. I really like how the wrenches, sockets, and extensions ended up. They look pretty nice and are easily accessible (A strong requirement for me).

However, I really, really hate how the magnetic strips worked out. The tools up there look jumbled and disorganized as could be. I will be taking them down, but right now I don't have any good ideas on how to organize the stuff up there. Mostly there will be miscellaneous screwdrivers and pliers.

Any comments and suggestions greatly appreciated!
