My Garage

I built my garage in 2002 to have a place to rebuild my 78 Corvette. I added another 30 ft X 20 ft to our existing 22 X 20 garage. That is where I spend most of my time, and my wife always knows where to find me. When the garage was finished, I painted the floor with 2 part epoxy in checkerboard style. I used the same type of 2 part epoxy that car dealer garages use in our area.

Here is what the Vette side of the garage looked like before I started:

After prepping, then painting the enitre floor with white epoxy, I taped off for the black squares:

After the taping and papering was complete, I painted 2 coats of black epoxy for the squares:

After letting the floor cure for 2 weeks, I drove the Vette in the garage for the first time:

Now the real work begins of pulling the body off the frame and building it all bcak the way it should have been built in the first place.... Big Block!!

Now after 3 years of hard work, the epoxy floor still looks good. I cut metal, grind, and even weld over the floor, and it is holding up real well!!

There are some battle scars, but as you walk into the garage, you really don't notice them unless you look for them.

And what brand of paint would that be?

I bought the paint from a Sherwin Williams Paint Store. The paint was industrial grade 2 part solvent based epoxy. They said that is what the car dealers use on their garage floors, and that they usually last about 3 years in the their high traffic enviroment.

Mine shows no wear from use other than the battle damage from welding or dropping heavy objects on them. I have drug heavy things like engine blocks and tranmissions across the floor and that did not even scratch it.

After I finish building the Corvette, I plan to repaint the floor with the same thing to freshen up the look.
