Yes, plural.

We just moved to a new (to us) house. We have 2 dogs and 2 babies, so it makes sense that our house would have 2 garages (and a 2 car parking pad!). :bounce:

Apparently a previous owner ran a mechanic's business from home and had the second garage built. He insulated it and the guy we bought it from was a drummer, so he "sound proofed" it.

Before this place, I had cars stashed in 3 different garages all over the city, which meant about an hour's drive between garages (without ever leaving the city limits!). For awhile I had to drive an hour or more outside of the city just to get to my car to work on it!

Here's a pic from my last garage at my old house. Brand new 2 car garage. That's my friend on the phone. This place was in a bad neighborhood. Some nice people, but I never felt too comfortable leaving the door open for long, if you know what I mean. That's my wife's 51 (yes, she built it) and my 65.

Here's some pictures of my new place. I haven't unpacked or started organizing yet, but I'm open to any suggestions you may have.

2.5+ garage.
I plan to paint the walls and organize, but that's about it. What do you think of the foam squares on the ceiling for "sound proofing". If they help, I'll leave them, but if they're a fire hazard, they have to go. This garage had a metal work table and ceiling fan when I moved in. It also has an open flame gas heater hanging from the ceiling, which I'll be selling and replacing with something safer later. The big monolith in the first pic is a metal storage cabinet I picked up for $10. I need to move it into place yet.

2 car garage.
All the stuff on the left will be put away or sold and that side will be converted into a wood-working shop for my wife... or for her next car project... whichever comes first... and she's itching for another car project! This garage needs a new roof and has a lot of leaks, so that obviously needs to be fixed. Both garages need some siding repairs and new overhead doors.

There is sound deadening foam that is fireproof or at least fire resistant, but I don't know if there's any way to tell if the foam on your ceiling is or not by looking at it. I'd take one down, bring it out to the driveway and hold a match to it to see what happens...if the stuff is flammable, you wouldn't want it dripping napalm on your head if you leave it in place. ;)

You have a shop press, a welder, an engine on the stand...you're one of the very few garages on here when it comes to actually using a garage, congratulations!

yeah, my floors definitely aren't pretty. :)

The windows are glass block, so they probably help some. He had carpet on all the walls and doors. I suppose it helped some. I'm not too worried about it.

I got half of the big garage painted the other day and got some decorations up. I'm still working on it though. I have to move the van out of the way first. I'll post updates when I'm done settling in.

The pin-up posters were my wife's. She framed them and had them hanging in her apartment when we first met. I have no idea where she got them... but I swiped them and hung them in the garage. :D I'll ask her if she remembers.

that foam on the ceiling isn't going to "soundproof" anything. If it did anything at all it might attenuate some annoying high frequencies but that's about it. It looks like foam from sofa cushions which I'll be it is. Not soundproofing of any consequence that's for sure. It'll probably burn/melt too so I think I'd ditch 'em unless you're planning on having band practice in there and if that's so, I'd add a whole bunch more to what you've got...

I just moved to Evergreen Park from Englewood (like I said ghetto with a capital G)

Yeah, probably couch foam. I've seen music studios set up with foam like that and it helps break up some of the sound. This guy was a drummer, so it probably reduced some of the slapback. I knocked piece down the other day and will test how fast it burns this weekend. I'm not looking forward to knocking all of that down. I spent an hour last night trying to remove all the shards of broken mirrors this idiot glued all over the walls.

Thanks! Here's a couple shots of it in the sun.

I stuck a lighter to one of those chunks of foam. It caught fire right away and kept burning. I don't think a spark could do it, but I think I'm going to have to know them down.
